"If the book we are reading does not wake us, as with a fist hammering on our skulls, then why do we read it? Good God, we also would be happy if we had no books and such books that make us happy we could, if need be, write ourselves. What we must have are those books that come on us like ill fortune, like the death of one we love better than ourselves, like suicide. A book must be an ice axe to break the sea frozen inside us."

—Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Austrian writer, The Metamorphosis, The Trial

Getting a Library Card

Document Actions

All residents of Huerfano County School District RE-1 are eligible for a library card. If you are 17 or over you will need to provide a valid (not expired) photo ID. This can be from Colorado or from another state. If it does not have your current address on it you will need to bring some proof of residency with you. This can be an insurance card, a bill or other official letter or document that was mailed to you at your current address.

Non-residents living in Colorado may obtain a library card by providing a valid photo ID and a valid library card from another CLC (Colorado Libraries Collaborate! program) library.

Persons under the age of 17 must have a parent or legal guardian come in to the library with a valid photo ID to sign the application form and to authorize internet use.
