Boies-Ortega Funeral Home is proud to sponsor a monthly educational series for 2022 on various topics including grief, end-of-life decisions, pre-planned funerals and later in the year topics such as Medicare vs. Medicaid and Life or Death Insurance. Light refreshments will be served. 11:00 a.m. each time unless otherwise noted. Certified Senior Advisor and geriatric specialist, Elisa Ingoldby C.S.A., administrator at Boies-Ortega will present, as well as some guest speakers along the way. All ages welcome.

March 16, 2022Helping Seniors Transition: As we age and get older, many decisions need to be made as we “transition” through life. Elisa will present options in this subject regarding upcoming decisions like choosing to stay at home safely or consider the possibility of long-term care.

April 13, 2022Pre-Need Funerals: No one really wants to talk about their own funeral. However, pre-planning your own funeral saves money, family grief and lets you control your legacy and how you want people to remember you when you’re gone.

May 11, 2022 – End of Life Decisions and Hospice – Sangre de Cristo Hospice joins Elisa in reviewing the options of what to plan for regarding end-of-life decisions. You don’t have to be in hospice care to plan what to do or how someone will honor your decisions when you can’t make them for yourself any longer. You will walk away with hand outs and tools to prepare you for difficult decisions to come in the future.

June 8, 2022 – Letting Go and Moving Through Grief – Letting go of someone we have loved who has passed is a difficult time in life. We could also be grieving the loss of: a pet, spouse through divorce, a job we cherished. Grief affects all of us. Come learn productive ways to handle this emotion.

July 13, 2022 – Raising Your Parents – It’s called the “Sandwich Generation” for people who still are coping with raising their children or paying for college, but also now have an aging parent who needs them. “Raising your parents” will provide coping skills and information on how to better handle being caught in the middle.

August 10, 2022 – Is it Life or Death Insurance? – Not everyone can afford life insurance, nor consider it important. DATCO Insurance will co-present with Elisa information regarding the necessities of insurance – life, death, long term care, etc….Come learn the ins and outs of whether insurance is really necessary.

September 14, 2022 – Medicare Verses Medicaid: What’s the Difference? – These two government agency programs are part of life for most older American’s. Despite their great benefit in our life, there are differences and you need to understand them. Pre-enrollment starts October 15th, so don’t miss this workshop!

October 12, 2022 – Long Term Care Planning – Most people believe they know how life will be towards the end. Hate to break the news, but we don’t and long-term care planning is a good way to prepare for the future. Come learn options, cost and what to expect when you can’t take care of yourself any longer.

November 9, 2022– Caretaking for Yourself and Others 101 – Now that the youngest Baby-Boomer generation is about to turn 60 soon, caring for self and aging parents is one of the most difficult parts of life. Declining health, stress, finances all play a factor in surviving this difficult role.

December 14, 2022 – Overcoming the Blues During the Holiday Season – Lonely, grief-stricken, or just missing your loved ones during this season of happiness isn’t always “joyful” for some people. Come to our holiday party and receive joy, love and “cheer” as we look at ways to cope.
