We are so fortunate to live in an area alive with traditions of the many ethnic groups that call our beautiful area home. Huajatolla Heritage Foundation is pleased to partner with the libraries in Walsenburg and La Veta to present a program sharing some of the holiday traditions of the region. Join us at 2PM on Tuesday December 14th in Walsenburg and Thursday December 16th in La Veta to share some stories of our rich heritage. Please come and share your traditions and learn about the ones Albert Galvan and Sandy Dolak will share. Homemade bizcochitos and Mexican hot chocolate will be served. Join us for a special program of holiday sharing! This program is brought to you with support from Colorado Humanities.
November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a time to heighten awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and show support for the more than 6.2 million Americans living with this devastating diagnosis. Even more staggering is the number of caregivers, loved ones and friends that are also affected. And we all have nagging questions wondering if misplacing our keys is the beginning of that slippery slope!
Sandy Dolak, RN is partnering with Mt. Rose Health Center Palliative Care and Hospice, the Walsenburg Library and the La Veta Library to present a most informative program about the understanding of the disease as well as most effective methods of interacting with those affected. She will be using materials presented by nationally recognized educator Amy Mathews. Amy has worked exclusively in the field of Alzheimer’s and related dementia disorders for the past 30 years. Sandy will also share her insight of many years of interest and a brief sharing of the role of creativity in working with this special population.
The program will be 2PM, Thursday November 18th upstairs at the La Veta Library and then repeated at 2PM, Monday November 22nd at the Walsenburg Library.
Please join us for this learning experience. Refreshments will be served.
Huajatolla Heritage Foundation and the Spanish Peaks Library District are offering a special program exploring the concept of Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) at 2PM on Friday October 29th at the Walsenburg Library.
Sandy Dolak has been interested for many years in this important cultural celebration that honors “those that have gone on before”. Come learn more about a truly joyous celebration.
Sandy will provide a show and tell of items from her Ofrenda (altar). We will also share the haunting legend of La Llarona which many residents feel is often present along our riverbanks. Refreshments will be served and learn why that is such an important part of the celebration!
